LOVE IN A BOX [Mar. 29th, 2006|12:22 pm]

What is Love in a Box?
Love in a Box is a 24-hour service project. The persons participating in this project collect donations and sponsorships to live in a box for twenty-four hours.

Who can participate in this service project?
Any student on campus. Just show up with your box and the allowed items detailed in the rules.

Who does this benefit?
Love in a Box benefits local homeless shelters. Omega Phi Alpha has given the proceeds to different shelters throughout the years. Last year and the year before, we raised over $500!

How can I get involved?
Collect donations from friends, family members, coworkers, and your fellow students. Tell them what you are going to do. Bring your donations to the event (along with your box and allowed items), and live in your box! If you cannot come to the event but want to participate, you may make a monetary donation, bring food to the participants, or stay for as long as you can.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE RULES

The purpose of this project is not only to raise money for the homeless, but also to raise awareness. This is an annual project for Omega Phi Alpha, and has always done well in the past. Sisters of Omega Phi Alpha look forward to this project every year. This year is the first year that we have invited the whole campus to join us in this project, and we are hoping to receive a lot of interest. We also hope to have a large number of people participate in the project. The more that participate, the more money that gets raised for local homeless shelters.

By raising awareness of homelessness, participants of this project will be homeless for the day. This includes the absence of luxury and things that we take for granted every day. It's interesting to live a day without your cell phone, television, or computer. It's frustrating to live a day without knowing how you will receive your next meal. When we take the focus off of our luxuries, we focus on the people around us. This explains why sisters of Omega Phi Alpha have bonded so well through this project. You are able to learn things about a person you never knew before. You will also make new friends. Living in a box for twenty-four hours does not sound appealing at first, but you will feel a huge reward after you have done so. Not to mention, you WILL have fun!

Participating members will inhabit a box for twenty-four hours on the designated date. You will stay in the box the whole time, except for 10-mintue breaks every hour. You will not be allowed to bring food for yourself (unless you have a medical condition that requires special attention). You may have friends or family members bring you meals.

YOU MAY BRING:
Sleeping Bag and/or blankets and sheets
Pillow
Your homework
One luxury item (deck of cards, board game, book)
Bottled water
Change of clothes
Your box

YOU MAY NOT BRING:
Any electronics (no iPods, CD players, DVD players, laptops, etc.)
No cell phones. There will be one cell phone present in case of an emergency.
An extra meal for yourself
Alcohol or illegal substances

THIS PROJECT IS SAFE.
The project takes place on campus.
The campus police will patrol our area every hour.
As stated before, there will be a cell phone in case of an emergency.
The CI building will be unlocked for us to use the restrooms.

If there is someone on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

Friends Cut [Jan. 13th, 2006|01:30 pm]
Okay guys, let's be honest here. Who actually reads my journal these days? I do my best to comment on those who have me listed as their friend, but it seems like nobody ever reads my entries anymore. So, let's make this simple. Let me know if you still want to be on my friends list or not. I won't be offended. Thanks!

Katharine Hepburn
You scored 16% grit, 14% wit, 42% flair, and 28% class!
You are the fabulously quirky and independent woman of character. You go your own way, follow your own drummer, take your own lead. You stand head and shoulders next to your partner, but you are perfectly willing and able to stand alone. Others might be more classically beautiful or conventionally woman-like, but you possess a more fundamental common sense and off-kilter charm, making interesting men fall at your feet. You can pick them up or leave them there as you see fit. You share the screen with the likes of Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant, thinking men who like strong women.

Find out what kind of classic leading man you'd make by taking the

It's TOO pretty outside to be inside so for the last hour and a half, I decided to go on campus and read outside surrounding myself with the palm trees. I'm glad I have time for once to do that.

More importantly, HAPPY 19TH BIRTHDAY WHITNEY!

She's expanded her stress to enhance her productivity rather than leave her depressed [Oct. 5th, 2005|12:01 pm]
[mood | productive]
[music |Anti-Flag - 911 For Peace]

So, I've been QUITE busy these last 2 weeks all due to the relentless virus known as "college." I seriously think college is getting the best of me. I have not had any fun since the Hurricane Rita evacuation to Austin, and as many of you know, that experience did not come without its own take on drama and stress. I had my Psychology exam that I have dreading since it’s only a 45 minute class and I had this ill fated idea that I would not be able to memorize my 12 paragraph essay over Erik Erikson and his 8 Developmental Stages. I happened to write this essay last night as Rina unfortunately to her disadvantage left her Psychology book in Austin during the midst of the Hurricane fiasco. Good ol’ Will finally decided to mail it the Sunday failing to realize that mail is not sent out on that particular day of the weekend. Overall, my adrenaline is high as I managed to ace my Psychology exam even with all the doubt and misfortunes along the way. I hope life is treating you all well since this week alone has made me realize that I do not give myself any credit for the wonderful things that most people do not care to realize or simply don’t know of. Now, it is time to do some last minute studying for my next exam at 1: Ethics! Pray for me with this one guys. I have a feeling I will need it…
